THE ULTIMATE CATWALK JEWELLERY COLLECTION DAZZLES MUMBAI

Swarovski Runway Rocks Mumbai 2008 - Grand Hyatt Mumbai, 23rd April 2008

Mumbai 23rd April 2008: Swarovski, the world’s leading producer of cut crystal for jewellery, fashion and interiors, for the first time presented SWAROVSKI RUNWAY ROCKS in Mumbai. Runway Rocks is an internationally acclaimed couture collection of spectacular catwalk jewels, commissioned by Swarovski from the most cutting-edge international designers – this time including a selection of Indian talent. In each of these one-of-a-kind creations, crystal, the timelessly modern material of the moment, is the shining hero.

This glitterati evening was all about style and Luxury Reborn! It was celebrations taken to another level by the crème de la crème of Mumbai indulging in the Luxe evening with celebrated names from Bollywood, fashion fraternity and industrialists. The celebrities in attendance at the magnificent evening were Jackie Shroff, Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Sussanne Roshan, DJ Aqeel, Natasha Khan, Ad man Prahalad Kakkar, Natasha Poonawalla, Devika and Suresh Bhojwani.

Celebrating the rarefied art of catwalk jewellery, and paying homage to the company’s long tradition of creative collaborations with couture, RUNWAY ROCKS, provocative and inspirational, challenges conventions of jewellery, sculpture and body ornament, exploring form, volume, movement and light, finding new expressions for crystal creativity.

RUNWAY ROCKS was originally launched in London, in 2003, with a ground breaking, conceptual catwalk show. It was the first major show of its kind devoted to fashion jewellery. Since then, several collections have been commissioned and the show have toured the world’s fashion capitals of the world, such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow, Barcelona and more.

Giving this new collection a distinctive Indian richness, the high-profile line up of 14 new names taking part in RUNWAY ROCKS MUMBAI included Indian based designers Manish Arora, Rohit Bal, Surily Goel, Farah Khan, Malini Ramani, Rocky S, Tarun Tahiliani, JJ Valaya and Suneet Varma, as well as International designers Collado Garcia, Zaha Hadid, Francis Mertens, Pippa Small, and the infamous “Mr Pearl”. Previous collection highlights from Philippe Ferrandis, Elizabeth Galton, Erik Halley, Christopher Kane, Linjing, Corto Moltedo, Jean Paul Gaultier, Luigi Scialanga, Philip Treacy, Lesley Vik Waddell, and Valentin Yudashkin completed the RUNWAY ROCKS MUMBAI line up.

"Swarovski is thrilled to bring RUNWAY ROCKS to a vibrant and exciting destination as India, such an important jewellery market. It has been an honour to collaborate with local Indian designers and to experience their interpretation of the RUNWAY ROCKS concept, adding to the international acclaim of the collection." said Ms. Nadja Swarovski - Vice President of International Communications at Swarovski and the 5th generation descendant of the founder Mr. Daniel Swarovski.

Adding depth to the scale of the event was the conceptual backdrop inspired by Jantar Mantar, the monument in Jaipur, which is unique in its scale, precision and endeavour for accuracy in the study of the Universe. The set, inspired by the major geometric instruments, complimented the dramatic catwalk presentation.

MAC Cosmetics was the official make-up partner and sponsor for the show and internationally acclaimed and world leading Henna artist Ash Kumar was flown in especially to create body art using CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements on the models taking part in the show.
