DREAMGIRLS
SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN DREAMGIRLS
Staring Beyoncé, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson
Swarovski crystal takes centre stage in this year's hit musical Dreamgirls, sparkling both on set and in the costumes. The stunning crystal curtain, which Oscar nominated Jennifer Hudson sashays past in the film, is created with Swarovski chandelier components, similar to those used to create this year’s one-ton, 34 foot masterpiece curtain for the Oscar stage, which provided a very fitting backdrop for the performance by “The Dreamettes”.
Costume Designer Sharen Davis, Oscar nominated for her designs, used Swarovski textile components to embellish the outfits worn by Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Anika Nonie-Rose, seen sparkling throughout the film.
As Hollywood’s premier crystal purveyor, Swarovski has had the privilege to adorn stars such as Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Grace Kelly in High Society, and Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. More recently Nicole Kidman shone with Swarovski in Moulin Rouge, James Bond sparkled with Swarovski in Die Another Day and the awe-inspiring chandelier in The Phantom of the Opera hung with more than 20,000 crystals, worth more than over €1 million euros. Swarovski jewellery stones and crystal textile applications were also used in The Phantom of the Opera to add the perfect note of romance and glamour to the costumes and accessories in the film.
From the early days of Hollywood, Swarovski has worked hand in hand with costume and set designers, creating show-stopping jewels, costumes and stage sets which grab the spotlight. The company’s reputation for the highest quality and largest variety of the finest cut crystal is unchallenged on and off the silver screen.
