SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL CHANDELIER TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT SWAROVSKI FASHION ROCKS
FOR THE PRINCE'S TRUST 2007
Swarovski, the world’s leading producer of cut crystal for fashion, jewellery and chandeliers, has created an outstanding chandelier to adorn the stage of Swarovski Fashion Rocks for the Prince’s Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 18 October 2007.
The chandelier is an awe-inspiring 26 feet high, comprises 57,000 of the 16mm crystals, and weighs 800kg. It will provide a glittering and glamorous backdrop for the evening, which will be hosted by Samuel L Jackson and Uma Thurman. Swarovski worked closely with set designer Bryce Walmsley on the design concept and construction of the chandelier which involved over 400 hours spent intricately assembling the crystal. Hundreds of crystal strands and LED lights form a spiralling cylinder-shaped giant chandelier, which will hang from ceiling to floor. The chandelier will dominate the centre of the stage, around which fashion models and music artists will perform. Two Swarovski crystal curtains made of 120,000 brilliant 14mm octagons, which took 250 hours to create, will hang either side of the stage to add to the drama and sparkle.
Set designer Bryce Walmsley explains the design process: “Having resolved a circular, flowing minimalistic structure for the set, we were somehow lacking a central dynamic – a spectacular moving set piece that added the wow factor whilst combining, style and scale. I came up with the idea of creating the largest theatrical crystal chandelier ever for television – and the result is mesmorising’.
Swarovski Fashion Rocks is a live spectacular which unifies the world’s leading fashion and music talent on one stage. Following massive success in London in 2003 and Monaco in 2005, this year’s Swarovski Fashion Rocks promises to be more outstanding than ever. The line up will feature shows by international designers accompanied by performances by the world’s top music artists.
Confirmed designers to date include Armani, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.
Swarovski is proud to sponsor this year’s event; Nadja Swarovski, Vice-President of International Communications for Swarovski confirms, “Swarovski is thrilled to once again support this incredible event, celebrating the creativity of the fashion and music industry while raising funds for such a worthwhile cause as the Prince”s Trust. As Swarovski crystals have been part of the fashion and music industries since the beginning of the last century, from the early days of Chanel and Dior to the album covers and tours of Beyoncé and Madonna, this star studded event has particular relevance for Swarovski.”
Swarovski Fashion Rocks for the Prince’s Trust will be televised on Channel 4 and also worldwide from late October.

112 years ago, in 1895, Daniel Swarovski I, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewellery stones. From these beginnings, which revolutionised the fashion world, Swarovski has grown to be the world’s leading producer of precision-cut crystal, for fashion, jewellery and more recently lighting, architecture and interiors. Today, the company, still based in Wattens, family-owned and run by 4th and 5th generation family members, has a global reach, with some 20,000 employees, a presence in over 120 countries and a turnover in 2006 of 2,37 billion Euros. Swarovski comprises two major divisions, one producing and selling loose crystals to the industry and the other creating design-driven finished products. Swarovski crystal components, known by their product brand names CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements for fashion and STRASS® Swarovski® Crystal for architecture and light, have become an essential ingredient of international design. Showing the creativity that lies at the heart of the company, Swarovski’s own-brand lines of accessories, jewellery and home décor are sold through more than 1150 Swarovski stores and concessions in all major fashion capitals, while the exclusive Daniel Swarovski accessories collection has become the company’s Couture signature. The Swarovski Crystal Society has close to 400,000 members worldwide, keen collectors of the celebrated crystal figurines. And in Wattens, Crystal Worlds, the multi-media crystal museum, has attracted over 7 million visitors since it was opened in 1995, as a celebration of Swarovski’s universe of innovation and inspiration, of crystal as the ultimate creative material. The Swarovski corporation also includes four industrial brands, Tyrolit®, manufacturing grinding tools, Swareflex, for road safety reflectors, Optik, producing precision optical instruments and Signity, Swarovski’s brand for genuine and created gemstones.
