(New York, May 9, 2008)- TIME magazine celebrated its TIME 100 issue last night by convening TIME’s list of the most influential people in the world at the fifth-annual TIME 100 black-tie gala at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, in New York City.
For the fourth year, Swarovski, the world’s leading manufacturer of cut crystal created a sparkling crystal object of art for the TIME 100 Awards. The award was presented to some of the world’s most influential people in Entertainment, Politics, Business, Art, Science and More. The TIME 100 Swarovski crystal awards are customized with a laser engraved TIME 100 logo and each honorees’ name.
The gala, hosted by TIME president and worldwide publisher, Edward R. McCarrick, and TIME managing editor, Richard Stengel, included performances by two of the influentials on this year’s TIME 100 list: Five-time Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey, whose new album is E=MC², and twelve-time Grammy Award-winning musician Herbie Hancock, winner of the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year. There were also performances by Saturday Night Live’s Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers.
Other TIME 100 influentials presenting toasts, included John McCain, Lance Armstrong, Indra Nooyi, Craig Venter, Tyler Perry and Robert Downey Jr.
