MOSS LA OPENING AUGUST 2007

Moss, the New York design store and gallery, opened Moss in Los Angeles on August 3, 2007. The minimalist, open-plan 4,000-square foot showroom was designed by Murray Moss and is located at 8444 Melrose Avenue. This is the first permanent Moss store to open outside New York’s Soho district.

Swarovski is proud that the opening exhibition, Glitter & Smoke, features chandeliers from the Swarovski Crystal Palace collection. Partnering with Swarovski, Moss exclusively represents the evolving collection in both California and New York. Glitter & Smoke premiers the extraordinary new light sculpture by Georg Baldele for Swarovski Crystal Palace, the Vertical Glitterbox; eighteen of these eight foot tall crystal pillars, in clear, teak or peridot crystal, create a shimmering hanging garden, surrounding a unique 1938 Steinway Baby Grand piano, fire-sculpted by young Dutch designer Maarten Baas. The piano is part of Baas’ ongoing Where There’s Smoke collection for Moss.

This first installation also includes Moss-exclusive, limited-edition studio work from Studio Job, Fernando and Humberto Campana, and Tord Boontje.

Murray Moss says, “We hope to seize the opportunity the new LA space will afford us rather than replicate our New York experience, while expanding our presentation in ways unique to Los Angeles. We are very excited about the ability to create a new environment, not a duplicate one, in a different location. We want Moss to grow, to experiment more, to reach further. And, at the same time, we want to be local."

Swarovski is proud to partner with Moss in the New York Tri-state area, as well as for California, besides featuring its Crystal Palace chandelier collection at Luminare in Chicago and Miami.
