’Somewhere Totally Else – European Design Biennial’ at the Design Museum celebrated the best of European contemporary design and is the first of a series of exhibitions featuring the most exciting and innovative design projects to have been produced in Europe in the past two years. Appropriate then that the Swarovski Crystal Palace collection with pieces by Tord Boontje, Tom Dixon, Vincent Van Duysen and Marcel Wanders to name but a few, were hung as part of this celebration. Nadja Swarovski has enlisted some of Europe’s hottest talent to reinterpret chandeliers and make them relevant to today. Given the crystal components the designers were challenged to reinvent the chandelier. The designs they produced have received worldwide acclaim.
